Indulge Your Inner Sherlock Holmes Playing Online Room Escape Games

Online Gaming

Could you refuse adding a little bit of mystery to your, maybe not quite monotonous, but too well anchored in reality type of life, spicing it up with some virtual detective work? If, to the mystery factor you add some logic problems, some puzzle challenges, some brain work-outs, then you’ve got yourself the perfect cocktail of fun and mind-challenging type of online entertainment: room escape games!
They’re as diversified as… they vary so little we might say, no matter how illogical this might sound! It’s the type of enclosures that make them come in so many various room escaping scenarios. Basically, there’s no four walled room that has not been greatly exploited by room escape games developers, from common house or apartment rooms to… labs, princess chambers, prison rooms, towers, spas and the list could go on and on and… on. Still, the game play differs quite little, but, surely, without diminishing that sense of novelty and excitement to embark on a new detective, mystery solving adventure each time you start a new online room escape game.
You find yourself trapped, all alone, in one room, with no companion whatsoever, just a very telegraphic explanation of how you got there, popping up in a short text line at the beginning of the room. Due to all kinds of well-chosen artifices such as spooky music or no music at all, tension will start to rise and, depending a lot on the type of enclosure that you’ve been imprisoned in, even panic will start to overwhelm you. After a few seconds, during which you get to become more and more conscious of the crisis situation that you’re in, all almost instinctively you’ll get yourself in motion and out of pure curiosity first, then out of a sense of self-preservation, you’ll start to explore the “cell” room in search for clues.
That’s right, clues play a major role in free room escape games! They’ve been strategically hidden in different corners of the room, depending a lot on the player’s vigilance and power of anticipation to track them all down. You’ll soon notice that you get to interact with the items from the room that you’re trapped in. Paintings will start to move aside or turn over as you click them, drawers can be opened so that you can spot the precious clues or written pieces of paper left there, the carpet’s whimsical pattern could reveal to a keen eye that there’s a precious clue there, integrating very well in the pattern’s design etc. etc. Clues, too, could be easily classified in independent cues and clues dependent on other… clues. This means that some of them you get to highlight and collect, as such, and others depend on you collecting other clues. For instance, a key that you’ll discover could help you unlock one drawer where a precious written paper can be found. When we refer to interdependent clues we might also think about those who create some sort of a puzzle, like a torn sheet of paper that you get to assemble or a disassembled toy that you get to put together again and which might just point out to you the way out of your “prison”.
If I am to sketch a “robot portrait” of the usual player who grows addicted to room escape games: he definitely loves having his brain challenged, he has a “guilty” fascination with mysteries and puzzles, he’s totally all into detective stories set into some of the most mysterious (again) environments and, of course he always appreciates the comfort factor, too, the fact that he can have his share of mind puzzling tests to pass from the very comfort of his… favourite chair, at home, if possible. Does this characterization ring any bell to you?
